Foothill Basketball Coaching Staff

Yousof Etemadi

Head Coach

Yousof Etemadi enters his second year as a head coach in Orange County.  Last season he helped lead the Northwood Timberwolves to a second place finish in the Pacific Coast League and a CIF Playoff appearance.  He is in his 10th year coaching overall. Prior to Northwood he was an assistant coach at Foothill, Aliso Niguel and the AFG National Team.  He has also been coaching the Cali Rebels 17U Adidas Gauntlet team the last three years and has been coaching club basketball for the last eight.  Coach Etemadi is a local product, playing at Aliso Niguel High School and then Cal Poly Pomona where he graduated with a B.A. in Graphic Design and helped his team win a Division 2 West Regional Title.  After Cal Poly, Coach Etemadi played with his national team in Asia (Taiwan, Qatar, India, China and Bangladesh).  Coach Etemadi has helped many Orange County players develop and move on to play college basketball.  He believes in developing great basketball players and great men to reach their maximum potential both on and off the court.  He is looking forward to building the Foothill High School Basketball program to compete at Orange County's highest level once again!

Sarkis Kara
Varsity Assistant Coach

Sarkis Kara returns back this season to Foothill High School after spending time on the 2018-2019 Santa Margarita Varsity staff. During his first season at SMCHS the team ended the season with a record of 25-11 with notable wins over highly ranked schools such as Rancho Christian, Coronado (Las Vegas),  Bishop Gorman Las Vegas, Etiwanda, Damian, Orange Lutheran, Harvard Westlake and ultimately concluding the season with a CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship over Chino Hills. Coach Kara was a varsity player at Woodbridge High School in Irvine. HIs coaching experience stemmed as a Varsity assistant under Hall of Fame coach Tim O’Brien for four years at Northwood High where they reached two Div 2 CIF semi final games. Coach Kara then moved on to Foothill High School for the 2017-2018 season as the head Freshman coach where he led his group to a league title and 21-6 record. Coach Kara has strong ties to grassroots basketball and runs one of the largest and most successful basketball clubs in Orange County.   His club has helped to develop both ESPN ranked, top 100 national level talent year after year, and he has coached several national level youth teams. His efforts as a coach and mentor have worked to create sound, smart and talented high school basketball players. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 2006 with a BS in Criminal Justice.

Gary Sully
Varsity ​Assistant Coach

Gary Sully is in his 8th year coaching (1983-1986, 2015-2019) at Foothill High School. He is a very proud Foothill Alumni having attended FHS from 1973-1977 and receiving multiple letters in Basketball and Football.  He lead his football team in scoring his senior year, while reaching the quarter finals in the 4A division. Gary has a BS in economics from The University of California, Santa Barbara. He has held multiple coaching positions at FHS, as a JV head coach and Varsity assistant. While JV head coach for three years, his teams won the league championship each year with an overall record of  89-10. Prior to his second stint at FHS as Varsity assistant coach, he was a Varsity assistant coach at Brethren Christian High School (2012) in Huntington Beach leading them to a 26-4 record and taking the team to the CIF semi-finals. At Brethren he coached Mamdou Nidiye (who went on to play at UCI), at the time, the tallest high school player ever at 7'7". Outside of basketball, Gary is a Licensed Realtor who owns and operates The Sully Group, a successful Real Estate Co. in Tustin.  Gary is a proud Eagle Scout and presently lives in Orange Park Acres with his wife Karen (also a FHS alumni). Gary is honored to be part of the FHS basketball family.

Reed Nakakihara
Varsity Assistant Coach

Reed Nakakihara graduated from Foothill High School in 2015, where he played basketball, 3 years on the Varsity team. Leading the team to 2015 CIF-SS Div 1A Championship and 28-4 overall record, he was named the 2015 Crestview League Co-MVP. After high school Reed went on to play one year at Colorado College where he played 26 games and shot 52.2% from the 3 point line. Following Colorado College, he transferred to Chapman University and started/played in all 76 games of his career. All three years at Chapman he was a team captain as well as on the SCIAC All Academic Team. Also at Chapman Reed holds the single season and all time career free throw percentage records at 93.4% and 93.1% respectably. Additionally at Chapman, he stands 4th all time in career 3pt shots made and 6th all time in career 3pt shot percentage. Reed is excited to be back at his alma mater as an assistant coach.

​Daleep Sandhu
Junior Varisty Head Coach

Daleep Sandhu is currently pursuing his MBA at the University of Redlands after receiving bachelors from University of Arizona. Daleep played at La Canada High School and the team won the CIF championship in 2011. Daleep has been coaching since 2011 at the high school level and AAU, most recently as the Sophomore Team Head Coach at Foothill High School for the 2018-2019 season. ​

Bryce Rutledge
Junior Varsity Assistant Coach

Bryce Rutledge graduated from Sonora High School in 2017 where he played varsity basketball all four years.  Following high school he went on to play at Cerritos College and ended up turning down multiple opportunities to play college basketball. Currently Bryce is working on is degree at UCI and hopes to study law in the future.  Prior to making his debut at Foothill High School, he coached club basketball for Cali Rebels and La Mirada ACR. Bryce lives in Anaheim and is excited to be part of the Foothill staff. ​

Jonathan Antolin
Freshmen Head Coach

Jonathan Antolin enters his 7th year of coaching and 1st with Foothill High School.  He played for CIF Hall of Fame Coach Tom Gregory at Ayala High School in Chino Hills, CA where he helped the program win multiple league championships making made deep runs in the CIF Division 1 Playoffs.  He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Cal State University Fullerton with an emphasis in Teaching Studies.  During college, Coach Antolin pursued a teaching/coaching career and coached Freshmen and JV basketball at Ayala High School from 2006-2011.  He took a hiatus from coaching to pursue a career working at Amazon.com in Dallas, TX.  He recently moved back to Orange County and started ASMC Enterprise - an E-Commerce Sales & Consulting Company, and is excited to be back pursuing his passion for coaching at Foothill High School.  ​
